My MOSAAIC Experience: Changing How Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Voices Are Heard in Health Research

For too long, Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities have been grouped as one, and the health guidance we received has not included our voices. It’s time to change that.

I recently had the opportunity to take part in the MOSAAIC Study—and it was such a rewarding experience! The surveys were simple to complete, and while the clinical work took a little time, everything was done with care and precision. It was clear that the team’s goal was to gather meaningful data that will truly benefit our community.

Incentives and Convenience

One of the highlights of participating was the incentive. I received $100 for my involvement, plus an extra $25 for completing a follow-up survey after six months. This kind of support makes it easier for people to join and contribute.

Even better, the Rizal Center now hosts a pop-up clinic on the 2nd floor. The University of Chicago healthcare team can handle all lab work onsite, which means participants don’t have to travel to Hyde Park. That level of convenience makes a big difference and encourages more of us to get involved.

Why This Study Matters

The MOSAAIC Study—short for Multi-Ethnic Observational Study in American, Asian, and Pacific Islander Communities—is a landmark effort to understand the unique health needs of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.

For too long, our communities have been grouped together in health research, which often overlooks the specific challenges we face. This study helps amplify our voices and ensures our concerns are reflected in public health solutions.
