Valerie is a graduate of the West Visayas State University and was a former teacher of the SPED-Integrated School for Exceptional Children in Iloilo City, Philippines. She found her passion in the visual arts under the tutelage of the multi-awarded Ilonggo visual artist, Mr. Ronie Granja. Her first artwork was one of the few works exhibited at the Museo de Iloilo in 1997. She is an active member of Pinturista, an Ilonggo visual artists group which features numerous art shows in Iloilo City and Iloilo Province. She was featured in All About Iloilo showcasing her expertise, passion and dedication as a SPED teacher, and as a visual artist as well. She shared her love for the visual arts not only in the Philippines but in the US as well. She organized and started the Painters and Artists at Wadsworth STEM (P.A.W.S.) – an after-school program where she taught students how to develop their creativity through painting at the Chicago Public Schools – Wadsworth STEM, which is located in the South Side of Chicago. Aside from being a teacher and a visual artist, she divides her time as a textbook writer, a Math and Science coach, and as an international news correspondent of Bombo Radyo-Philippines. Valerie is one of the 18 filipino-american artists exhibiting at the 3rd level of the Evanston Public Library from April 14-May 31 to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander heritage month.
