Set is a visual artist born in the Philippines and raised in Majayjay, Laguna, a small town at the foot of Mount Banahaw known for its lush green scenery and bodies of water. Growing up in this naturally rich environment sparked her interest in art at an early age. Her work reflects nature, as well as the personal experiences and life events that have shaped her vision.
Set received a degree in Visual Arts from the University of the Philippines in 1985 and moved to Chicago with her entire family in 1987. She went on to earn a Nursing degree from Purdue University in 1993 and a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration from Calumet College of Saint Joseph in 1996. She also studied photography and ceramics at Indiana University in 1997. Nursing keeps her grounded and inspired, while art serves as her creative refuge.
She was a resident artist at the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago from 2016 to 2024 and has taught figurative sculpture at the Chicago Ceramic Center since 2019. She is a former board member of the Chicago Alliance of Visual Arts and Chicago Sculpture International, and she remains active in various art organizations.
