Dalagang Filipina, Mixed media, 24 x 36 inches, 2024

BIO

Nathalie G Lopez was born in Bacolod city, Philippines. She’s a self-taught artist who discovered her passion for art while studying to be an RN at AUP. In 2019 she wrote, illustrated & self-published a children’s book “The Rain Star Babies”. In the early years of her artistic endeavor, she was mostly interested in factual depictions of portraits. Recently, she started experimenting with different styles of painting and expression of her art. In her latest piece “Ang Dalagang Filipina” she utilized her sewing skills to create a painting that incorporates couture. Her portraits hang in private collections in the U.S.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work “Dalagang Filipina” depicts a refined young Filipino maiden wearing a modern Filipiniana dress. I’ve been fascinated with mixed media arts, incorporating different materials and mediums. The textures and 3-dimensional aspects of mixed media art make the artwork curiously more interesting. I’ve seen textiles being used in this type of art but not sewn like an actual dress onto a canvas.
