Haymaker Gym has joined MARC, the program for Martial Arts at Rizal Center! I’m excited to have new friends (instructors, students, collaborators), new gear, and new ideas.
Haymaker Gym will be teaching classes for Boxing, Wrestling/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, General Fitness, Striking, and Self-Defense. The new MARC schedule starts after this weekend.
I will continue to teach my classes, but on a new schedule. The emphasis of my classes will shift towards topics not covered by the other classes. I hope you guys are also mildly amused that our initials are inverted: GH vs HG! Find out more about me at Enyo Enso.
In their own words:
We provide self-defense, martial arts, and strength training to anyone in Chicago, regardless of ability and income level. Our fitness is based on the principles of solidarity and mutual-aid. In the face of violent white nationalism, widespread poverty, and rising temperatures, we are building the strength to protect each other. We not only want to improve ourselves, but help create a new world along the way. Help us keep our doors open to every person who wants to stand up for the fight ahead! Thank you for building resilient and strong communities!

The new MARC schedule, starting after this weekend, will be as follows:
- Thursdays 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. HG: Wrestling / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
- Saturdays 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. HG: Boxing
- Saturdays 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. HG: Open Gym / Strength & Stretching
- Saturdays 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. HG: Striking & Self-Defense
- Sundays 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. GH: Martial Arts with a Filipino emphasis
- Sundays 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. GH: Tai Chi
All classes are free, but donations to the FACGC, Haymaker Gym, or individual instructors are appreciated. In addition to donating my time and effort, I’ve donated a room full of martial arts gear, and today I’m donating dozens of books on martial arts.
FYI: There is another group in the works to join MARC, but it’s not official yet. When it happens the additional classes should fit into the schedule above.
Whether you are big or small, brown or white, young or old: People are people, love is love. You have the unalienable right to life and liberty, which you should exercise while also respecting that that others the right. You must care for yourself because it is your responsibility — more so than anyone else. Self care is required if you wish to care for loved ones and engage with them.
Let’s fight, get fit, and have fun!
