Indigo Field is a rising sophomore at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on fibers and material studies, as well as fashion. Based in Chicagoland, her work explores the Filipino-American diaspora experience through a feminine perspective, using materials like lace, rhinestones, and found objects.
Her art examines how beauty standards and gender roles, shaped by colonial ideology, continue to influence modern Filipina women. Indigo primarily works with quilting, embroidery, and mosaic. These mediums are detail-oriented and time-intensive, built on connecting separate smaller fragments into one finished work. These processes allow her to reflect deeply, creating space for remembrance and connection to her cultural heritage. Beyond that, it ties her to past generations of women within her family that worked with techniques such as embroidery, lacemaking and garment construction to create textile artwork.
Indigo is one of the 15 filipino-american artists in Chicago who have their art currently on display at the Rizal Community Center. Exhibit runs until September 13.
