July was a vibrant and meaningful month at the Rizal Center, filled with opportunities to connect, learn, and celebrate as a community. From creative workshops to cultural celebrations, each event brought us closer together. Here’s a look back at the seven standout moments that made this month so special:
1. Improv Workshop with Essential Invisible
Participants of all ages explored creativity, quick thinking, and teamwork in a fun and supportive environment. The workshop was made even more special with a community meal sponsored by CIRCA Pintig as part of our Lots of Love program. Laughter and bonding filled the room—proof that creativity knows no age limits!

2. Fishing & Picnic Outing
Families and friends gathered for a relaxing day by the water, casting lines and sharing stories over a picnic. A heartfelt thanks to our friends from the Illinois Department Natural Resources’ Urban Fishing Program for sponsoring this wonderful outing, bringing joy and connection to our community.

3. Volunteer Work Day in Honor of Dr. Jose Rizal’s Birthday
In celebration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s legacy, community members came together for a day of service and reflection. The event was made even sweeter with a BBQ merienda sponsored by CIRCA Pintig, reminding us that unity and bayanihan spirit remain at the heart of our mission.

4. Tinikling Workshop at the Rizal Center
A special shoutout to Kapamilya Habang Buhay (KHB), also known as Lane Tech’s Filipino Club, a group of high school students who embrace and appreciate Filipino culture both in and out of school. KHB led a group of 25 multi-generational participants in learning the traditional Filipino dance, Tinikling, under the guidance of Mae Lant. KHB’s leadership and enthusiasm brought energy and joy to everyone involved—proof that our youth continue to inspire!

5. A Special Visitor at Pamana Children’s Library
We were delighted to receive a generous book donation—Sino si Nellie? for our Pamana Children’s Library. This wonderful addition will help young readers explore new stories and deepen their love for reading. Maraming salamat to our kind guest!

6. Yo Yo Get Funky Fundraiser
This lively and fun-filled event brought the community together for a night of music, dancing, and celebration—all while raising essential funds to support the Rizal Center’s programs. A huge thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to making this event a success!

7. Launch of Tagalog Classes
Our 8-week Tagalog language course officially began, with classes held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Led by Sally Richmond and Connie Triggiano, a dedicated group of students embarked on their journey to learn and connect with the Filipino language and culture. Exciting conversations and new friendships are already blooming! Registration for the Fall class is on its way.

A Heartfelt Thank You! Salamat po!
July was truly a month to remember, and none of it would have been possible without the participation, volunteerism, and support of our incredible community. As we look ahead, we’re excited for more opportunities to learn, grow, and celebrate together.
Stay tuned for upcoming events—we can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish next!
Maraming salamat, Rizal Center Community!
