Celebrating Student Contributions at the UMSI Project Exposition

On April 21, 2025, Rizal Center staff members Angela Mascarenas (Fund Development Officer) and Ginger Leopoldo (Volunteer & Outreach Coordintator), had the wonderful opportunity to attend the UMSI Project Exposition, where they were excited to meet the dedicated student team from the University of Michigan School of Information (USMI) in person in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This event served as a platform to showcase the remarkable work these students have accomplished in collaboration with the Filipino American Community of Greater Chicago (FACGC).

A Heartfelt Thank You

The commitment and creativity demonstrated by the USMI students have been truly inspiring. Their efforts in redesigning the Rizal Center’s website aim to enhance community engagement and streamline communications. During our visit, we expressed our gratitude for their hard work, which has significantly contributed to our mission of fostering a vibrant and connected community.

Highlights from the Project

The students have made impressive strides in several key areas:

User-Centered Design: They have developed high-fidelity prototypes that prioritize user experience, ensuring that the website is accessible and engaging for all community members.

Community Feedback: Through extensive surveys and interviews, the students gathered valuable insights from community members, allowing them to tailor the website to better serve our needs. Innovative Features: The proposed website redesign includes features such as event registration, volunteer opportunities, and a dynamic calendar, all designed to promote in-person engagement at the Rizal Center. Looking Ahead

As we move forward, the contributions of the USMI team will continue to play a crucial role in shaping the Rizal Center’s online presence. Their dedication to fostering community ties and enhancing our outreach efforts is commendable, and we are excited to see the final outcomes of their hard work.

We encourage everyone in the community to stay tuned for updates as the project progresses. Together, we can create a more connected and engaged community through the power of technology and collaboration.

Thank you once again to the USMI student team for your exceptional contributions!
